Kathmandu : The 3rd edition of the Everest Premier League (EPL) Twenty20 cricket tournament begins at the TU International Cricket ground in Kirtipur today.
A total of six teams named after six different cities of Nepal are competing in the event that will run until December 22. Biratnagar warriors, Bhairaha gladiators, Kathmandu kings-11, Chitwan tigers, Lalitpur patriots and Pokhara rhinos are the teams in the fray for the coveted trophy, according to the tournament manager Amir Akhtar.
The inaugural match today is taking place between defending champion Biratnagar warriors and Lalitpur patriots. Biratnagar is led by Paras Khadka while Gyanendra Malla captains Lalitpur.
A total of 19 matches will be played during the 15-day long tournament. Foreign recruits and well as cheer leaders are new attractions this year. A total of 19 foreign players from 8 countries will be featuring during this year’s tournament.
The tournament will be played in a round robin system with two matches played every day. The tournament has been officially recognized by the International Cricket Council.
