Formation of society with social justice prioritized: Minister Bista

Kathmandu : Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Gokarna Bista has pledged to address the issues relating to Harawa-Charawa prevailing in various parts of Terai region on the country. 

At a programme organized by the National Dalit Network Nepal (RDN) here today, Minister Bista reiterated to resolve the issue on Haruwa-Charuwa at the earliest. 

Haruwa-Charuwa is a traditional form of bonded labour. 

Bista said, "The government has planned to address the issues facing the socially, economically and culturally backward community as Madheshi Dalit communities as accommodation, education, health and employment." Stating that the incumbent government aimed to form a society with social justice, the Minister assured that those without accommodation would be provided accommodation and those not having land would be provided land for a single time as stipulated by the constitution ensuring people's right to accommodation. 

Similarly, Chairperson of the State Directives, Policy and Liability Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Committee Niradevi Jairu urged the government to take into serious account the issues of accommodation and land the Madheshi Dalit were facing. 

Scientific Socialist Communist Party Nepal Coordinator Bishwabhakta Dulal demanded with the government to provide a complete package to advance the cause of the Haruwa-Charuwa, who were economically and educationally disadvantaged. 

Likewise, RDN President Ganesh BK drew the attention of government towards resolving Haruwa-Charuwa issues. 

According to BK, unable to pay back the debt of the landlords, many Madheshi Dalit such as Mushahar, Pashwan, Jolaha, Chamar, Sadar and Baantar among others were still living off their landlords' lands in various districts as Parsa, Bara, Rautahat, Sarlahi, Mahottari, Dhanusha, Siraha and Saptari.
