Kathmandu : The temple of Pachali Bhairav based in Teku of Kathmandu Metropolis-12 is crumbling in the absence of proper care and protection.
The 2015 April earthquake had inflicted damages on the historic monument, increasing the risk of cave-in and of physical safety in the surroundings. The temple has not witnessed even minor repair works and renovations for a long time. Due to this, the condition of temple is deteriorating.
The old idol of Pachali Bhairav was replaced by the existing one some two years ago as the previous one developed cracks and its outer appearance faded away.
It is said that former King Gyanendra Shah finally assisted to get a new idol for the temple. When the monarchy was in existence in the nation, there were rituals of exchanging swords with the Pachali Bhairav by the kings.
Special prayers and worships are offered to the Pachali Bhairav with the belief of acquiring divine powers and before starting any special work or such work that needs special efforts. The Pachali Bhairav festival takes place once in 12 years on the Day of Bijaya Dashami which is called 'Barha Barse Pachali Bhairav Khadga Siddhi Jatra'.
Near the Pachali Bhairav, there is the temple of Machali Bhairav which is taken as a successor to the Pachali.
When contacted, Kathmandu Metropolis-12 ward chair Bikash Dangol said the restoration works will begin within the current fiscal year.
