Ghorahi : The government launched a nationwide campaign to enroll children of the school-going age in schools on April 15.
A campaign to enroll children of this age to school was also launched in Dang district as part of this and hundreds of thousands of rupees was spend under this heading. But as many as 1,356 children of the school-going age are still out of school in the district.
The District Education Development and Coordination Unit stated that 2.8 per cent or 1,356 children of all the school-going age children in the district are out of school.
This is the statistics based on the data and information collected by the schools, students and the resource persons after visiting the different localities and asking the parents. The data does not include the children coming from other districts who work in factories and industries in Dang and the children from the district who have left home and gone to other districts.
It is stated that 70 children of the five to 16 years age group and 285 children of three to five years age group are not attending school.
Likewise, the numbers of children dropping out school is 1,001.
Market in places like Ghorahi, Tulasipur, Lamahi, Bhalubang and Narayanpur among others in Dang is expanding and many children are found working at hotels, restaurants, small industries and furniture workshops without attending school.
Information officer at the DEDCU Devmani Chaudhary said that many children in the district remain out of school because of the lack of awareness among parents that they should send their children to school and also due to the poor economic condition of many families.
