PM Deuba instructs Nepal Police to gear up for poll security arrangements

Kathmandu, Oct 13: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has instructed the Nepal Police to get ready for management of security arrangements for the nearing elections to the House of Representatives and State Assemblies. The twin elections have been slated for November 26 and December 7 in two rounds.In his address to a special programme organised at the Nepal Police headquarters here today, marking the 62nd police day today, the prime minister applauded the Nepal Police for its role in making the recent local level elections successful. He hoped the same sort of support and cooperation from it in the upcoming polls also. “Despite limited resources, the Nepal Police has done its best in maintaining peace and order in the country and I, as the Prime Minister, highly acclaim this.”He took the time to direct the police administration to be more active to keep the society safe through the closeness between the police and civic.”The Nepal Police has contributed to the peace keeping efforts worldwide through its participation in the United Nations peace keeping mission,” he further added.Also speaking on the occasion, Home Minister Janardan Sharma said the government was preparing to announce further relief packages for the families of those attaining martyrdom and left injured in the line of duty.”People are there to evaluate the performance of the police,” he said, adding that police force creative, professional and accountable to the people was the current need of the country.As shared by the Home Minister on the occasion, he had brought an 84-point road map for the reform in home administration by depoliticising it and works were going on accordingly.Inspector General of Police Prakash Aryal expressed his views that the police day that is celebrated in commemoration of it gaining the legal recognition would inspire the entire police force to become more responsible towards the nation and people.On the occasion, Prime Minister Deuba feted members of the families of 25 police staff who had lost their lives in the line of duty this year.The Prime Minister, Home Minister and Minister of Home for State Shyam Kumar Shrestha laid a wreath on the Police Memorial Pillar at the police headquarters.Similarly, former IGP Kuber Singh Rana was bestowed the “Nepal Police Lifetime Achievement Award”.  (RSS)
