Advertising companies should be disciplined and competitive: Minister Basnet

Kathmandu, 11 Jan : Minister for Information and Communications, Mohan Bahadur Basnet, has said that advertising companies should be disciplined and competitive.

Inaugurating the 18th annual general meeting of Advertising Agencies’ Association of Nepal here today, Minister Basnet said, “Advertising companies, that are benefiting the nation by providing employment to thousands of people, are themselves an industry. The government is ready for the support to take the advertising business as the industry.”

He further said that the government has forwarded different significant works by taking 250 ropanis of land on lease in Hetauda to print passport and currency in Nepal.

The Communications Minister said that preparation was underway to provide communication service in all places of the country as well as to forward computer education as a compulsory education in 14 districts in the beginning by allocating Rs 750 million.

Minister Basnet also expressed the view that the government is thinking of making Nepal a digital country by 2027.

Similarly, Association President Santosh Shrestha urged the government to give recognition to advertising companies as industry, as advertising companies of Nepal are capable to compete with multi-national companies.

He also demanded the government to implement the ‘clean feed’ and to form Advertising Council immediately. More than 1,500 advertising companies have been registered in the country and over Rs 6 billion has been invested.

The AGM will elect a new working committee today.
