Red Cross Society of China provides Rs 130 million support to NRCS

Kathmandu, 4 Jan : Red Cross Society of China is to provide financial and technical assistance to Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) for the construction of its central godown.

NRCS is building the godown in Bhaktapur to be used at times of disasters.

NRCS general secretary Dev Ratna Dhakhwa and vice-chairperson of the Red Cross Society of China, Wang Hiking, signed on the agreement paper to this effect here today. A high-level delegation of the RCSC led by vice-chairperson Wang is on a three-day visit to Nepal.

As per the agreement, the RCSC will provide financial assistance of Rs 130 million and other support to the NRCS. The

godown would be constructed within the next two years, Chief of NRCS’ humanitarian and communications department, Divya Raj Poudel, said.

NRCS president Sanjib Thapa thanked the RCSC for the support, saying this would help meet the need of a godown with large storage capacity which was badly felt in the aftermath of the April 25, 2015 Gorkha earthquake.

RCSC vice-chairperson Wang said the RCSC would support the Nepal Red Cross Society in other areas as well besides the construction of the godown.

The high-level RCSC delegation also inspected the godown construction site at Bhaktapur today.
