Drinking water and sanitation programme effective in landless squatters’ settlements

Kathmandu, 13 Dec – The Drinking Water and Sanitation Programme in various six landless squatters’ settlements in Kathmandu and Bhaktapur districts were found to be very effective, claimed MinErgy.

The programmes were launched in Bhimmuktishwor, Shantinagar, Jagritinagar, Dhaukhel and Pathibhara of Kathmandu district and in Manohara in Bhaktapur district with the support from UNICEF Nepal.

It was shared at a programme organized by MinErgy here today that various physical infrastructures relating to drinking water and sanitation were constructed since April this year besides running awareness drive in those settlements.

MinErgy’s Programme Coordinator Swasti Joshi said that the programme was launched to create basic awareness about drinking water and sanitation, and to help mitigate issues relating to the environmental pollution.

Joshi shared that water filters and biogas plants were installed in various settlements while model toilets were also built in those settlements.

The participants of the programme drew the attention of the concerned authorities and NGOs towards the poor conditions of sanitation and drinking water in many landless squatters’ settlements in the capital city.
